Why engage your co-workers in volunteerism?

Of course you’ll have a positive impact on issues you care about, but here are a few other reasons a business would want to provide this opportunity for their employees.

  • Build your team and develop employee leadership
  • Boost employee morale and job-satisfaction
  • Increase employee retention rates
  • Attract new quality employees
  • Enhance company reputation and relationships in the community
  • Meet company social responsibility mission

Research Says...

Here’s a sample of some ways your team can get involved:

  • MLK Day of Service: Occurs on the federal Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday each year. Projects vary year-to-year, but generally engage groups of volunteers. [OFFSITE]
  • Homework Diners: Homework Diners are weekly events that allow students and families to receive homework help along with a free meal for the whole family. We do this at three area middle schools, Asheville, Enka, and Erwin but they are open to any family in the surrounding school district, whether they have a child attending the middle school or not. Volunteers are needed to help with registration, food service/clean-up and tutoring. Homework Diners run from October-May each year.  Want to help? Check out available opportunities: [OFFSITE]
  • Holiday Book Drive: Our annual holiday drive serves local middle school students by giving them the gift of reading during the holiday season. 61% of low-income households have no age-appropriate books in the home. Help us provide a book to thousands of middle schoolers and other students this holiday season! [ONSITE]
  • We Care! Experiences: Impactful service experiences that align with United Way’s strategy to reduce the impact of poverty on people’s lives.  These experiences connect the dots between the volunteer activity and the community need behind each package created.  We buy the materials, manage the project and integrate the experience with your employee engagement goals. [ONSITE, BUDGET]
  • Customized projects: We can build and manage a project based on your specific interests, whether it’s for a group of 10 or 200.   [OFFSITE, BUDGET]
  • Lunch and Learns: Short presentations that cover a variety of topics that educate your employees about a community issue or resource.
