Each new school year, many families struggle to provide their children with the necessary school supplies. This can disadvantage those children, both socially and academically, from the start. Hands On has always believed that children should only have to worry about coming to school and learning—not having to worry about anything more.
Since 2007, with the help and support of our local businesses and community members, our School Supply Drive has allowed more than 7,500 students to walk into their first day of school fully prepared. Because of our ability to buy supplies in bulk, that translates to over $445,000 in school supplies donated over the past five years! This is only possible through your generous donations, and this year, we’re setting our goals even higher! Last year, 1,754 students were able to go to school without having to worry that they have everything they need. This year, we want to do that for a full 2,000 students! #2000students
Make going back to school a positive experience by helping us send kids to school with a new backpack and all the supplies they need for a successful school year. Your contribution not only helps alleviate economic stress on low-income families, it helps ensure that each student has an equal opportunity at success!
If you would like to go to the store yourself, we have a printable supply list HERE.
You can host your own mini-drive at your workplace, civic club, or faith community! Click HERE for our toolkit.
You can drop any donations off at the following convenient community locations (July 10-July 28): United Way and Asheville Savings Banking Centers.
We absolutely appreciate anything you can give. To give some idea, a calculator costs roughly $10. A partially filled backpack costs $25, and a backpack with all the needed supplies, ready to go, costs $45. Every dollar helps us give these kids a jump start to a successful school year!
