Who We Are

Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center (BMNTC) is a specialized neuro-medical facility owned and managed by the Division of State-Operated Healthcare Facilities of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

The facility serves adults with chronic and complex medical conditions and/or behavioral conditions that coexist with neurocognitive disorders related to a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and related Dementias or neurodevelopmental disorders related to intellectual and developmental disability.

What We Do

Three programs comprise the primary services of BMNTC

  • Specialized Alzheimer’s and Related Dementias Program: This program provides services addressing the physical, social, psychological, and spiritual aspects of quality living for individuals with moderate to severe dementia and whose aggressive or combative behavior make other living arrangements unavailable.
  • Specialized Intellectual and Neurodevelopmental Disorders Program: This program provides individualized support and care from BMNTC staff members who have expertise in medical concerns, diagnosis and treatment of dementia in persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities, specialized nursing level of care, and enriched life planning for seniors with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Alzheimer’s and Related Dementias Respite Program (Greenwood Inn): This program provides temporary relief to families who are experiencing the intense pressure of constant caregiving responsibilities of persons with Alzheimer’s and related Dementias.

BMNTC is supported by Black Mountain Center Foundation in providing numerous activities for residents and their families, including personalized music options, an equestrian program, creative expressive arts such as paint and dance, annual celebrations, and educational opportunities for caregivers.
