Who We Are
Mission: To connect volunteers with local nonprofit organizations and schools by providing an online platform that makes it easy to find a cause that fits anyone’s interests and schedule.
Hands On Asheville-Buncombe, the volunteer center of United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County, facilitates the involvement of individuals and groups in volunteer opportunities with local nonprofit organizations and schools.
What We Do
Hands On Asheville-Buncombe guides and coordinates work in the following areas:
- Agency and School-Based Partners: Supports volunteer recruitment for nonprofit organizations and schools that are in need of volunteer support, primarily via the handsonasheville.org website.
- Business United: Support for local businesses to plan and implement community engagement efforts encouraging employee volunteerism.
- Hands On Managed Flex Projects: Flexible, recurring, low-commitment volunteer projects coordinated by Hands On staff that address specific needs at local nonprofit organizations.
- Hands On Portable Projects: Projects providing community service opportunities for individuals, families, and groups that can be completed at home or other locations.
- School Supply Drive: Annual drive where Hands On works together with individual donors, local businesses, agencies, and volunteers to collect and distribute school supplies for elementary and middle school students.
- Who Got You Through: A volunteer recruitment campaign focused on recruiting caring adults as volunteers who support students as mentors or tutors to help students stay on track toward long-term success. Hands On supports partners involved in the Asheville-Buncombe Middle Grades Network.
- Days of Impact: Annual community-wide service event that matches workforce volunteers with service projects benefiting agency and school-based partners.
