Who We Are

Mission: To provide students of all backgrounds with access to a quality education rooted in sociocultural theory and ministry; assist in the growth and development of students academically, socially, and spiritually; and produce the next generation of leaders.

The Christine W. Avery Learning Center (CWA) is an educational nonprofit organization working to build an active, culturally enriching learning community among students of all ages. CWA envisions enhancing the state of marginalized communities by equipping, empowering, and energizing the next generation of socially-conscious leaders.

What We Do

CWA programs serving children and parents include:

  • Early Learning Programs: Full-day programs for children 6 weeks – 5 years of age providing early care and education activities, including activities that promote play skills, speech and language development, and pre-reading skills. 
  • Pre-K Program: Full-day programs for 4-year-olds offering play and learning activities that promote school readiness.
  • School-Age Program: An after-school program for children in kindergarten through fifth grade offering activities that promote academic, social, and physical development. 
  • S.T.A.R.S.: A summer camp for teens offered in partnership with UNCA Asheville that focuses on academic development, service learning, community engagement, leadership development, team building, and cultural enrichment. 
  • Parent Talk: Quarterly parent education and involvement sessions focusing on a variety of topics such as parenting in the 21st century, school engagement and participation, discipline, and healthy eating and nutrition.
