Opportunities From: Hands On Asheville-Buncombe

The WNC Nature Center is seeking two reliable volunteers to lend a hand in our beloved, century-old barn! If you enjoy meaningful, hands-on work, rustic charm, and the constant serenade of goats, we’d love to have you join us. We are looking for two volunteers for Saturday and Monday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

For consistency and training purposes, you should be able to commit to a weekly shift (same day and time) for at least 3 months. 

Tasks Include:

Cleaning stallsPrepping barn animal diets (grain and produce)Stuffing hay bags and filling water bucketsHelping the animals out into the farmyard area for the dayEnsuring that guests refrain from bringing food and drink into the barn and do not feed the animals

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift 30 lbs.Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas using the spoken wordHearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levelsVisual acuity is required for determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activitiesVolunteers are subject to adverse environmental conditionsMust be comfortable working outdoors and around insectsPlease do not apply if you have a sensitivity to hay or dust
