AMOS is the center for expert science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM) learning in WNC. They strive to spark imagination and foster lifelong curiosity in the museum through exhibits and outreach STEAM education programs. 


 The Asheville Museum of Science is looking for students with interests in science education, visitor services, operations, and retail who are interested in an Internship/Volunteer opportunity with AMOS. Tasks/goals (including but not limited to):

  • Build knowledge in areas of STEAM education strategies, equipment, and materials used to implement programs
  • Learn and improve on basic strategies for classroom management and student engagement, building upon current experience 
  • Gain experience delivering educational materials to preschool-8 th grade students
  • Develop skills with time management, program development, organization, teamwork, collaboration, communication, and leadership
  • Gain experience and exposure to a museum membership program, including software, data entry, processing, and marketing
  • Gain skills and experience with marketing software: Mailchimp, Wordpress, Canva, Social Media Tools, and Adobe Illustrator
  • Gain experience and exposure to marketing operations of a small non-profit museum
  • Gain experience and exposure in e-marketing and social media tasks, including graphic

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • An interest in engaging with museum visitors of all ages, enthusiastically
  • Willingness to ensure that all visitors are having a positive experience during their visit
  • Have ample time management and solid organizational skills
  • A passion for increasing interest in STEM in children
  • Minor Waiver completed by parents/guardians

Time Commitment: 

  • Part-time; Schedule flexible and based on volunteer availability

Health/Safety:

  • Volunteers will complete a daily health screening prior to beginning their volunteer shift
  • All volunteers and interns are required to sign a Health Safety Form detailing policies and protocols, following all state and local health safety guidance 
  • We are asking in-person volunteers to wear/bring their own face covering during participation
    • Cloth covering nose and mouth
    • Fabric or disposable face mask
  • Asking volunteers to maintain physical distance of 6 feet or more
