Your safety and limiting the spread of COVID-19 is everyone’s main priority. We encourage you to review and adhere to the recommendations on the Buncombe County readiness site on how best to avoid COVID-19 and what to do if you think you might have it.
Buncombe County Government provides a variety of services to residents around the areas of general government, human services, culture and recreation, environment, education, economic and physical development.
For each market that occurs on the fourth Monday of every month, there are 6 slots available for a 3.25-hour shift to help prepare and distribute food.
Food Sorting/Packaging: 1:15-3:00
Food Distribution: 3:00-4:30
Volunteer Responsibilities:
- Assistance with on-site setup and breakdown
- Unloading food truck and/or packaging boxes/bags
- Passing out food boxes/bags to community residents
Requirements:
- Respond to the shift by clicking the blue RESPOND button above
- If you want to volunteer with friends or family, click the blue RESPOND AS A TEAM button above
- Sign a waiver before shift begins
Skills Required:
- Positive customer service skills
- Ability to remain calm during times of crisis
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. (occasionally lifting up to 40 pounds)
- Bending, twisting, stooping
- Comfortable working outside in all weather conditions
Attire:
- Wear clothes that are comfortable and let you move freely
- Dress for the weather forecast
- Comfortable, close-toed shoes

Health and Safety:
- Masks are optional, bring your own if you need one
- Hand sanitizer and hand washing stations are available on site
- Gloves provided during food packaging
- We ask volunteers to maintain a physical distance of 6 feet or more when possible
- Note: there are times when the volunteer task requires volunteers to engage closer than 6 feet. Please do not sign up if you feel uncomfortable.
