Before you even begin thinking about volunteering, ask yourself – Am I well enough to volunteer?

Your safety and limiting the spread of COVID-19 is everyone’s main priority. We encourage you to review and adhere to the recommendations on the Buncombe County readiness site on how best to avoid COVID-19 and what to do if you think you might have it.


 Buncombe County Government provides a variety of services to residents around the areas of general government, human services, culture and recreation, environment, education, economic and physical development. 

Buncombe County Government is looking for individuals, community organizations, and other groups of volunteers to help clean up Lake Julian Park and along Haywood Road on Saturday, April 24 at 9 am - 12 pm.

The park-wide cleanup celebrates Earth Day and the growing global movement to restore ecosystems and forests, conserve and rebuild soils, improve farming practices, protect wildlife populations, and rid waterways of plastics.

Projects include:

  • Roadside Trash Pickup along Haywood road
  • Lake Surface Trash Pickup (must bring your own watercraft)
  • Landscaping Project
  • Sustainability Project
  • Wetland remediation
  • I'll Go Wherever I'm Needed!

Volunteers will be provided with:

  • Clean-up supplies but volunteers should wear clothes that can get dirty.
  • Snacks
  • Drinks

Health & Safety Provided:

  • Social Distancing Signs
  • Masks
  • Gloves
  • Hand Washing Station
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Asking Covid-19 related safety questions 

Requirements:

  • Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. 
  • Advance Registration is required

Why does this matter? We have to limit the number of people attending each project. This helps everyone stay safe by following COVID-19 specific safety measures. Please understand that if you show up on-site without registering first, you may be turned away so that the agency can maintain safety procedures.  Safety is our top priority and we want to be sure needs are met while also being safe.
