The Council on Aging of Buncombe County strives to create a community where everyone has the opportunity to age successfully. Our Mission is to promote the independence, dignity, and well-being of adults through service, education, and advocacy.
Our Call-A-Ride program allows seniors to call in rides within Buncombe County for anything from doctor's appointments, to trips to get their hair done, and anything in between! (The overwhelming majority of rides are requests to and from doctors appointments.)
Volunteer Responsibilities:
- Volunteers will sign up at their convenience to drive seniors to appointments.
- Volunteers should be reliable to the rides they have claimed.
- There is no requirement of rides or hours per month, this opportunity is incredibly flexible and can work with you!
Requirements:
- Requires weekday availability. (Ride requests are only accepted for times during our office hours to ensure a staff member is able to assist drivers if needed.)
- Background Check (including Motor Vehicle Report
- Reference Checks
- Training/Onboarding done at our offices
- Must provide your own transportation (reimbursement provided)
Skills Required:
- Volunteers should be kind and compassionate.
- Volunteers should be comfortable with driving around town.
Attire:
Volunteers are able to wear whatever attire they feel most comfortable in!
Location:
Our offices are located at 46 Sheffield Circle, Asheville, NC 28803. We are in the lower part of the Chapel on Deerfield Retirement Community's Campus.
- Park in the Chapel parking lot but follow the signs and sidewalk that lead you down the stairs or ramp to the right of the chapel for our main entrance.
- *Please do not enter the chapel as we have a separate entrance.
