MountainTrue champions resilient forests, clean waters and healthy communities in the Southern Blue Ridge. In the wake of Hurricane Helene, MountainTrue is dedicated to addressing the urgent needs of our community. With our deep roots in the area, strong partnerships, and a collaborative approach, we are committed to tackling the immediate crisis and laying the groundwork for a resilient future in Western North Carolina and the Southern Blue Ridge.
Come join the French Broad Riverkeeper team in cleaning up trash and debris left behind by Hurricane Helene at Glen Bridge River Park in Arden. We will focus on the park itself, along with riparian areas on both sides of the river, extending down to Corcoran Paige River Park.
Date and Time:
● Friday, November 8, 2024
● 9:00 a.m. - noon
Volunteer Responsibilities:
● Cleaning up trash and debris from the water and in riparian areas on both sides of the river
● PPE (glasses, goggles, gloves) will be available, but you may bring your own
Requirements:
● Willing and able to life items and walk in wet and often messy conditions
● Feel free to bring your own boat, but if you do, then bring your own PFDs and appropriate clothing
Skills Required:
● Positive attitude in messy outdoor conditions
● Able to walk and lift debris and trash
Attire:
● Long pants
● Close-toed shoes with rubber boots, work boots, or waders
● PPE (glasses, goggles, gloves) will be available, but you may bring your own
● Feel free to bring your own tools (loppers, saws, shovels, ladders, etc.)
Location:
● Glen Ridge River Park, 77 Pinner Road, Arden, NC 28704
Health and Safety:
● PPE (glasses, goggles, gloves) will be available, but you may bring your own
● Lunch might be provided at end of shift, but this isn't guaranteed
● Bring your own snacks and water
● No bathroom facilities on site
