Big Ivy Community Center serves the local community and surrounding communities in Buncombe and Madison County. We have public grounds as well as public service programs such as our food pantry. We host multiple events and programs throughout the year that are intent on helping our Big Ivy community thrive. Currently we are supporting the surrounding community with comprehensive needs in response to the destruction caused by Hurricane Helene.
We currently have a high need for volunteers to support the management of our weekly meal service at both lunch and dinner Monday-Friday. (Wednesday's - Friday's are our busiest days and when support is needed most)
Note: This opportunity occurs OUTDOORS. Please dress appropriately for projected weather conditions.
Volunteer Tasks/Duties:
- Managing the Big Ivy Community Hot Meal Service
- Cleaning the food prep and meal service areas
- Stocking the pantry area
- Serving food to community members
Skills/Requirements:
- Ability to lift 25lbs
- Customer service skills
- Comfortable working with food and in a kitchen
- Ability to adhere to food serving and sanitation guidelines
- Organizational skills in kitchen/pantry spaces
- Ability to follow instructions and manage the space independently
- Closed-toed shoes advised
- Family friendly environment
