United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County is looking for volunteers to support the Pack and Sort Event as the finale of the Annual School Supply Drive sponsored by our partners at Bank of America. Volunteers will be asked to participate in set up, packing backpacks, breakdown of space and loading backpacks for distribution.
Shift Dates and Descriptions:
- All shifts during this 3 day event are 2 hours
- Volunteers are welcome to sign up for more than one shift
- Monday, August 2nd (3 shifts; 11:00, 1:00 and 3:00)
- All shifts will be focused on breaking down the supply order and prepping the space and materials for packing.
- Tuesday, August 3rd (4 shifts; 9:00, 11:00, 1:00 and 3:00)
- All shifts will be focused on packing backpacks.
- Wednesday, August 4th (3 shifts; 9:00, 11:00, and 1:00)
- Volunteers will finish packing backpacks if needed & clean space for distribution. At 11:00, volunteers will begin to load backpacks into vehicles for distribution.

Requirements:
- Volunteers “respond” to available shifts
- Volunteers agree to adhere to all safety measures implemented
- Ability to lift a minimum of 25lbs
- Bending, stooping, and twisting
- Ability to stand on concrete for long periods of time
- Heat tolerant (no air-conditioning, fan available)
- Sign the waiver upon arrival to your selected shift

- For volunteers who have not been vaccinated and volunteers who prefer, please wear a face covering that covers your nose and mouth.
- Please practice hand hygiene frequently before and after consuming any food and after visiting the restroom.
- Restrooms available for hand washing
- Hand sanitizer is available on site
- Gloves provided (not required) during sorting and packaging
- Communal spaces will be disinfected periodically throughout the day

Why does this matter? There is a specific number of slots for each shift. Please understand that if you show up on-site without registering first, you may be turned away so that the agency can maintain a safe, organized and engaging volunteer experience.
