As Community Schools supported by United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County, Asheville High School and Asheville Middle School partner with community organizations to provide students and families with resources, opportunities, and support for success. Community Schools create strong ties among families, students, schools, and the community while serving as academic and social centers to support innovative learning.
We are excited to announce an opportunity to support a new district-wide resource room that will benefit students across the district. This initiative aims to enhance connections among students, families, schools, and the wider community, fostering academic and social development.
We invite you to join us for a Day of Connection at the Education & Career Academy (formerly the William Randolph Building), 90 Montford Ave, Asheville, NC 28801, on August 21st from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. This is a wonderful chance to come together, give back to the community, and support the students of Cougar Academy and Education and Career Academy.
Volunteer Responsibilities:
We have a variety of tasks to tackle, which can be split between general campus cleanup and resource room setup:
General Campus Cleanup:
Move all resource items from the teacher lounge to the resource room.
Move all supplies from the space near the front office to the larger space in the teacher lounge.
Ensure all hallway boards have uniform fabric or paper throughout the building.
Dust and clean all counters and major areas, including the teacher lounge and front office.
Remove all weeds outside, clean up mulch areas, and apply new mulch.
Resource Room:
Organize toiletries and miscellaneous items in cabinets.
Fold and store clothing by size/style in bins (and hang some clothing).
Label all cabinets and bins with corresponding items within them.
General cleaning to prepare the space for family use.
Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods.
Attire:
Comfortable clothes and shoes.
Hat and sunscreen (if working outside).
The location will provide all necessary supplies—just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to help. This is a great opportunity to contribute to our community and make a meaningful impact on students' educational experiences.
