Our dedicated staff is committed to serving the whole child, including academic, career, social and emotional learning. As a Community School supported by United Way, Reynolds offers enriched learning opportunities through after school clubs. Each club is led by a teacher or school staff person, and runs from 3:00-5:00pm. Volunteers are needed to assist the club leaders with club-specific activities, and to engage with the students during club time. 1-2 volunteers per club is sufficient. As a community school supported by United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County, Owen Middle School partners with community organizations to provide students and families with resources, opportunities, and support for success. Community schools create strong ties among families, students, schools, and the community. Owen Middle School receives clothing to distribute to students in need in our Community Resource Room. We are seeking volunteers to help organize the clothing donations on 10/2, 10/9, 10/16, 10/23, 10/30, and 11/6. We have been in operation since March 2013 and currently serve about 110 households (460 persons weekly.) Our community is "trilingual": English, Spanish, and Ukrainian. In the second shift of the day, volunteers will assist clients and other volunteers with the Free Community Market and Clean up. Tasks can include supervising the shopping station, restocking tables, assisting with gatekeeping, assisting with intake, assisting clients with groceries, and assisting with parking lot safety. Everyone assists with cleanup at Market close. Indoor and outdoor tasks are available. We provide a free choice pantry in a market format every Wednesday for Food Insecure neighbors in Hominy Valley and surrounding communities. Our goal is to create healthier, happier families and a more productive community by providing access to nutrient dense food for all our neighbors. We have been in operation since March 2013 and currently serve about 110 households (460 persons weekly.) Our community is "trilingual": English, Spanish, and Ukrainian. In the second shift of the day, volunteers will assist clients and other volunteers with the Free Community Market and Clean up. Tasks can include supervising the shopping station, restocking tables, assisting with gatekeeping, assisting with intake, assisting clients with groceries, and assisting with parking lot safety. Everyone assists with cleanup at Market close. Indoor and outdoor tasks are available. They comprise a diverse group in terms of educational background, socio-economic status, personal goals, and learning styles. Many are challenged by learning disabilities such as dyslexia. They come to us because they want to improve their job prospects, help their children in school, enroll in a GED program, or just feel better about themselves and their ability to cope in today’s world. Volunteer: Archiving Audio Transcription Team HelpMeher Archive Collective is seeking volunteers to join our Transcription Team! Audio transcription involves two roles: Transcriber and Proofreader.
