A.C. Reynolds Middle School (ACRMS) is located on a beautiful campus overlooking the mountains in East Asheville. We serve a diverse community of approximately 530 students, grades 6 through 8. Our dedicated staff is committed to serving the whole child, including academic, career, social and emotional learning. As a Community School supported by United Way, Reynolds offers enriched learning opportunities through after school clubs. 

Each club is led by a teacher or school staff person, and runs from 3:00-5:00pm. Volunteers are needed to assist the club leaders with club-specific activities, and to engage with the students during club time. 1-2 volunteers per club is sufficient.

Mondays - STEM Club (Science, technology, engineering, and math) – conduct science experiments and explore engineering challenges, solve problems through innovation and design in a collaborative, process-based environment to spark STEM career pathways.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

Take attendance and distribute provided snacksAssist with the set-up of supplies for the activityBe another adult in the room with a positive and encouraging attitude.

Requirements:

Fill out a Level 1 volunteer application on the BCS Volunteer Registration LinkPersonal transportation to the school

Skills Required: 

Positive and compassionate attitude Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skillsComfortable working with middle school students

Attire:

Comfortable, casual clothes that are appropriate in a school environment

cuisines while cooking simple, healthy, and tasty meals together. Students will also learn about kitchen
safety, teamwork, and how food connects us to culture and community.

Thursdays - Art and Craft Club - explore 2D and 3D art through painting, drawing, sculpture and other mediums, and engage in hands-on crafts like collage, fiber arts, and more. Projects based on student interests, encourages creativity and self-expression.

Community Nights featuring Homework Diners are a welcoming family engagement event at the Reynolds Middle School campus that includes a free, catered meal for families and students, time for relationship building between school staff and families, academic tutoring support and connections to community resources.

Community Nights are open to any family in the Reynolds community, whether they have a child attending the school or not. 

The Reynolds Middle Community Nights occur on Tuesdays from 5:00-6:30 pm. Each week has 6 slots available for a 2-hour shift. Volunteers are asked to arrive at 4:45 pm and leave at 6:45 pm to assist with setting up and breaking down the event. Additionally, volunteers will receive a meal and are welcome to bring their family.

Roles Registering, welcoming, and directing attendees at the event Homework Support  Meal Service Assistance Set up and clean up Attire Wear comfortable, close-toed non-skid shoes (ie. sneakers, Crocs, etc.)* Wear clothing that you are ok getting dirty* *For those serving food.  Requirements Read the follow-up email sent by the UWABC Community Nights Manager- be sure to arrive at the relevant time for the shift  Follow all Health and Safety guidelines  Health & Safety Masks are optional, bring your own if you need one Hand sanitizer is available on site Gloves provided while handling food Skills Positive customer service skills Bending, twisting, and stooping can occur depending on the role assigned Comfortable standing for long periods of time Location A.C.
