The Black Mountain Center for the Arts offers high-quality, accessible arts education and programming to the Swannanoa Valley community. Our MoveAbility program engages and empowers individuals with disabilities through adaptive dance, movement improvisation, and self-expression in a supportive environment.

Opportunity Overview
We are seeking MoveAbility Classroom Assistants to help our lead instructor create a safe, engaging, and inclusive dance experience for participants with physical and/or intellectual disabilities. Volunteers may also assist with special off-site performances such as the Black Mountain Christmas Parade and our annual Spring Dance Recital.

Volunteer Responsibilities

Assist lead instructor with classroom management

Support behavior management strategies

Encourage and engage students during activities

Help collect simple data to track student progress

Assist at off-site performances and events

Requirements

Completion of short volunteer orientation and role briefing

Commitment to all scheduled classes and select special events

Personal transportation to site and event locations

Skills Required

Comfort and confidence working with people of varying abilities

Positive, empathetic, and patient demeanor

Ability to stand and move for over 1 hour

Attire

Comfortable clothing suitable for movement

Volunteer: Volunteer Content Creator & Event Media Specialist

Capture the energy and creativity of Black Mountain Center for the Arts events through photography, video, and digital storytelling. This role helps elevate BMCA’s visibility and build an engaging archive of performances, exhibitions, workshops, and community programs

Key Responsibilities:

   Photograph and/or record event highlights, including gallery exhibitions, performances, workshops, and audience interactions.

Create short-form content—such as videos, reels, or story clips—for BMCA’s website and social media platforms.

Curate and edit visual content: select strong clips/photos, adjust lighting or framing, and add basic captions or text overlays.

Collaborate with BMCA staff to identify key moments and storytelling opportunities. Submit edited assets in a timely manner for promotional use or archival storage.

Qualifications:

Own or have access to photography/video equipment (DSLR, mirrorless, smartphone with good camera, gimbals, mics) and basic editing software (e.g. Lightroom, Premiere, or smartphone apps).

Creative eye and strong visual storytelling skills.

Familiarity with social media formats (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok) preferred.

Reliable, organized, and able to deliver edited content in a timely fashion.

Comfortable working alongside event attendees and BMCA staff in public settings.

Expectations & Commitment:

   Available for one or more BMCA events—such as exhibitions, performances, or community activities.

Time commitment varies: from 2–5 hours per event, depending on scope.

Remote content editing and delivery may follow in support of outreach efforts.
