Born in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, the Valley Hope Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit established to provide direct assistance to the families and communities of the Swannanoa River Valley.

Our mission is to restore hope and rebuild lives in North Carolina and surrounding communities by providing vital assistance, fostering community collaboration, and promoting preparedness for future disasters.


The Valley Hope Foundation is seeking volunteers for aid and food distribution in our Black Mountain Warehouse. Each week we process and distribute food to between 5,000 and 8,000 families impacted by Hurricane Helene - and we need your help! Come help us sort pallets of food and produce, and serve it to the public. Our weekly scheduled volunteer hours are Tuesday from 10:00Am-3:00pm.

 

Volunteer Responsibilities:

Sorting and organizing supplies & aid 

Loading vehicles with supplies & aid

Delivering supplies

 

Requirements:

16+

 

Skills Required: 

Be able to lift 25lbs

Compassion and patience when dealing with filling families requests

Be able to stand for long periods of time

Be able to move, twist, and bend

Communication and teamwork skills

 

Attire:

Work Gloves

Close toed shoes

Comfortable weather appropriate work clothing

With thousands of families displaced from their homes and extreme damage to properties, volunteers with experience in minor chainsaw work and tree removal are desperately needed to help the residents of the Swannanoa River valley and the people of Western North Carolina.

 

Volunteer Responsibilities:

Assess treework needs

Transport equipment

Cut/process downed trees

Assist volunteers/property owners 

 

Requirements:

Background Check

Personal Transportation

 

Skills Required: 

Experience with chainsaws (chainsaw certification is a plus)

Ability to lift heavy objects

Ability to stand for long periods

Positive and compassionate communication skills

Harsh weather conditions

 

Attire:

Protective gear: glasses, helmet, gloves etc.

Volunteers will be using various machinery and equipment to remove storm debris.

Assess debris cleanup needs

Cleanup and remove debris using equipment

Assist in general care of equipment during operations

Work with volunteers and staff

With thousands of families displaced from their homes by the storm, we have been able to provide both temporary and permanent housing solutions to residents of the Swannanoa River valley. We continue to provide building materials and facilitate infrastructure development efforts throughout Buncombe County. 

Volunteers with experience in skilled trades and general contracting are desperately needed to continue this good work. Most work will happen on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. 

Work may include but is not limited to:

1. Demolition

2. Carpentry

3. Electrical

4. Plumbing

5. General Home Repair
