Volunteer: First Presbyterian Kitchen: Cook for your community at Equal Plates Project

Come Cook for your community in our new kitchen!

Equal Plates Project is a local nonprofit that purchases from small farms at fair prices, transforms their quality ingredients into nourishing meals, and partners with community organizations to share thousands of meals each week with neighbors facing complex barriers to food access. 

Volunteer Responsibilities:

process local farm products (vegetables and meat)chop fresh vegetablesprepare meals and portion into meal trayswash dishesrelated kitchen tasks as neededhave fun with the awesome and talented Central kitchen team!

Requirements:

Orientation - to be completed at the beginning of your first shiftSigned liability waiver - can be completed on site before your first shiftMinimum Age: 16 years old

Skills Required: 

Ability to stand for long periods.  We have chairs for breaks, but most of the work requires standing.Positive attitude and willingness to learn new things 

Attire:

Non-slip, closed-toed shoesSomething to pull your hair back (hair tie, bandana, hat) - the kitchen will have hair nets

Location:

40 Church Street;

There is no parking at First Presbyterian church. However, you are welcome to park behind Central United Methodist Church on Buncombe Street. *NOTE: we now have parking passes that need to be put on your car dashboard. Please come to the Central UMC first, grab a pass and return it after your shift. 

Access the parking lot via Buncombe St. behind the church (click here to see a dropped pin of the parking lot)

Park at the top of Buncombe St. by the fire escape. 

Ring the bell at the black gate by the Equal Plates Project sign.

There are also a couple of free parking garages nearby that you can park in or you can use the paid street parking. 

Once parked, walk on Church Street towards Patton Avenue and turn down the alley that runs next to the church.  

When you get to the blue dumpsters, turn right and ring the doorbell by the Equal Plates sign.

We are looking for volunteers for our monthly food distributions at AC Reynolds High School. Volunteers will help distribute food to families. Any family can receive food, no qualifying questions asked.


Volunteer arrive at 7:30am to AC Reynolds High School. Food is distributed from 8:30am-10:00am.
