Hands On Asheville-Buncombe, the volunteer center of United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County, is a one-stop-shop for discovering opportunities to support local nonprofits and schools in Asheville and Buncombe County. Our easy-to-use web-based platform matches volunteers with hundreds of opportunities in our neighborhoods. Volunteers can search for opportunities based on their own interests, connect with agencies doing work they find valuable in the community, and discover meaningful ways to connect and give back. We encourage you to share opportunities with your friends, invite others to join you in searching for ways to give back and build relationships with the organizations that are making a difference in Buncombe County.

Our database has over 200 volunteer opportunities posted at any given time. Narrow your search by finding opportunities that meet your interests. Like working with youth? Great! Like to play in the garden? Fantastic!
When browsing opportunities, use the “Interest” search filter, type in your own phrase, or use one of the other filters to narrow the opportunities and find the best fit. You can even become a fan of your favorite organizations and receive email notifications of newly posted opportunities.
TRACK YOUR SERVICE HOURS
Whether you’re a student needing hours for graduation, a volunteer who needs court-ordered service hours, or your company is looking for a way to track your employee volunteerism efforts, you can track service hours via our website!
Once you begin volunteering, you’ll have the ability to view and print your own "volunteer resume" with all service hours are reflected in your volunteer profile as they are approved and entered in our database. The resume includes colorful graphics as well as a complete list of service hours. - co-create a community engagement plan
- strategize how to incorporate volunteerism into an organization’s culture and employee engagement efforts
- create a custom project based on specific interests and group size
- lead a project onsite at the place of business or conference
- engage staff in-service days and year-round group opportunities
