Who We Are
Mission: To dispense opportunities through improved health.
NC MedAssist seeks to ensure that no eligible person in North Carolina has to choose between purchasing food or their needed medication; improving the patient’s health and lowering uncompensated health care costs for all stakeholders.
NC MedAssist began in 1997 (as MedAssist of Mecklenburg) through the efforts of the Mecklenburg Medical Society Alliance with the assistance of a $55,000 grant from the employees of Presbyterian Hospital. Last year, NC MedAssist dispensed over $70 million in medicines for our patients.
What We Do
NC MedAssist provides critical pharmacy services and support to uninsured and low-income residents across North Carolina:
- Free Pharmacy Program: Offers free prescription medications for uninsured residents earning up to 300% of the Federal Poverty Level, addressing chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and asthma.
- Mobile Free Pharmacy: Hosts statewide events distributing free over-the-counter medicines and identifying individuals eligible for the Free Pharmacy Program.
- OTC Free Store: Provides free over-the-counter medications and durable medical supplies in Charlotte, NC.
- Partners in Hope: Collaborates with healthcare providers to connect uninsured patients to free prescription medications and other resources.
- Transitional Jobs Program: Offers work-based learning opportunities to individuals facing long-term unemployment or barriers to employment.
Through these programs, NC MedAssist ensures access to life-saving medications and health support for North Carolinians in need.
