Who We Are
Mission: To ease hunger, reduce waste and support our local food industry by redistributing surplus prepared food and purchasing meals from chefs to serve our neighbors in need.
Food Connection rescues surplus chef-prepared food, repacks into meals, and resdistributes into communities which reduces food waste while easing hunger. Food Connection is currently operating in North Carolina in Buncombe and Madison Counties.
Asheville, North Carolina is where Food Connection originated in December of 2014. Since launching over half a million fresh meals have gone to feed our neighbors in need we’ve also expanded to serve other parts of Buncombe County including Leicester, Black Mountain, Swannanoa and also parts of Madison County. Food Connection has kept an estimated 205 TONS of fresh meals out of the Buncombe County landfill!
What We Do
Food Connection rescues freshly prepared surplus food from restaurants, conference centers, and caterers. We pack individual heat and serve meals to distribute in the community as well as share this food with other organizations who feed our neighbors, diverting thousands of pounds of fresh food from entering our landfill! Volunteers help pack and distribute food as well as helping with event planning.
