Who We Are

Hood Huggers Foundation grew from the creative and community-building work of co-founders DeWayne Barton and Safi Mahaba (known for the famous Hood Tours). To carry their vision forward, they expanded under the Hood Huggers umbrella, which now includes both a nonprofit and a social enterprise branch. We're working on our new website; stay tuned!

What We Do

The Hood Huggers Foundation carries out its vision through projects dedicated to micro-farming, workforce development, and the building of Blue Note Junction. We're a grassroots organization and do a lot :)

Mission
The Hood Huggers Foundation works to restore the grassroots regenerative well-being of historically marginalized communities through the arts, the environment, and social enterprise.

Vision
We envision a culture of sustainability that is inclusive and just, grounded in the philosophy of “six months of work and six months of play.” This approach reflects a balanced life of meaningful work, joyful rest, and shared prosperity.

Values
Our work is guided by integrity, as we act with honesty, accountability, and consistency. We embrace creativity, imagining new possibilities and adapting as we grow. We believe in celebration—honoring joy, culture, and milestones as essential to our collective well-being. We center community in every decision, grounding our efforts in people, place, and shared purpose. And we commit to collaboration, building strong partnerships rooted in trust, equity, and mutual respect.
