Who We Are

Mission: To challenge, support and empower all students to learn and achieve for a lifetime.

North Windy Ridge is an intermediate school located in Weaverville, NC, in the North Buncombe district of Buncombe County Schools. North Windy Ridge seeks to provide a rigorous, diverse curriculum and foster personal connections, ultimately preparing all students to positively contribute and succeed within their local and global communities.

North Windy Ridge is a partner in the Asheville Buncombe Middle Grades Network, which utilizes a collective impact strategy that brings together Asheville City Schools, Buncombe County Schools, and community partners around a shared vision of creating success-ready 9th-graders and improving graduation rates.

What We Do

North Windy Ridge serves students in fifth and sixth grades, offering a curriculum that includes classes in reading/language arts, writing, mathematics, social studies, and science, as well as classes in exploratory areas such as PE, Medical Detectives, Band, Art, Music, Technology, STEM, Spanish, and Media. Additionally, students have access to a media center, a counseling program that offers both individual and group counseling, and an academically and intellectually gifted program. Extracurricular activities include:

  • Battle of the Books: A reading incentive program where students read books and come together in a fun competition to demonstrate their knowledge of the books. 
  • Choir: School chorus providing opportunities for weekly practice and participation in performances. 
  • Drama Club: Opportunities for students to participate in productions of plays and musicals as members of the cast or the costume, make-up, and backstage crews.
  • MathCounts Competition: A national middle school mathematics competition that builds problem solving skills and fosters achievement through fun, in-person, “bee” style contests.
