Who We Are

Mission: To empower students to dream and prepare them to achieve.

Charles D. Owen High School (OHS) is a public high school within the Buncombe County Schools System and is located in Black Mountain. OHS strives to create a safe, caring, rigorous, and engaging learning environment in order to provide students with college and career readiness skills.

What We Do

Serving students in grades 9 – 12, Owen High School seeks to promote student graduation by modeling responsive communication, offering diverse and relevant learning opportunities, and relating content to community and global issues. Students fulfill requirements for graduation after choosing to follow one of several courses of study, with curriculum areas in English/language arts, writing, math, science, computer/ technology skills, social studies, and electives. A wide range of electives is offered, including cultural arts, career and technical education, world languages, health and physical education, and ROTC. Additional instructional supports include an e-learning lab where students take high school and college-level courses via the computer, Advanced Placement classes either on-site or through the NC Virtual Public Schools, a library and media center, and a counseling program.

 Also available for students are numerous clubs, athletics, and other extracurricular activities such as:
