Mission: To improve the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness.

National Alliance on Mental Illness Western Carolina (NAMI Western Carolina) is a volunteer-led, nonprofit organization located in Asheville and is an affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness. As an affiliate, NAMI Western Carolina works to provide support, education, and advocacy to improve the wellness and quality of life of those affected by mental illness.

What We Do

In addition to offering both peer and family/caregiver support groups, NAMI Western Carolina provides the following programs and trainings:

  • Family to Family: An education course for families/caregivers of individuals living with mental illness, providing up-to-date facts about mental illnesses, medications, communication skills, problem-solving, community services, advocacy, and care for the caregiver.
  • Survivors of Suicide Loss – An 8-week class designed to help survivors on what can be the most difficult journey anyone will ever experience. Discover you are not alone and find help with the grieving process.
  • Program Training: Training offered to prepare individuals to become facilitators/teachers for family and peer support groups and other NAMI Western Carolina programs.
