Appalachian Community Relief: Volunteers Need for Sorting and Stocking THURSDAY-SATURDAY

Appalachian Community Relief is neighbors supporting neighbors through a no cost grocery store providing food, water and supplies for WNC.

We are looking for volunteers to help with sorting and stocking the store for shopping and to help support shoppers with shopping, parking, and loading supplies.

Must be 18+ year old to volunteer on your own.  Minors welcome if accompanied by an adult. 

We have water and snacks for volunteers, but please bring your own lunch. Currently, we have a microwave for volunteer use, but no fridge.

Please note due to the fluid nature of our work & fluctuations in deliveries and shopper volume some shifts may end earlier than scheduled depending on operational needs at the time.

Volunteer Responsibilities

• Unpacking new donations, sorting/organizing donations, replenishing floor stock for our shoppers. 
• Supporting shoppers one on one finding items and navigating the store as needed.
  
• Greeting and checking in shoppers.
  
• Assisting with parking & entry to the store.
  
• Loading groceries into cars.
  
• Answering phone calls/assisting shoppers with registration/appointments.
• Light cleaning (sweeping, taking out trash/recycling).
  

Requirements:

• Please plan to arrive 5 minutes before your shift.
• Comfortable with bending, lifting, walking, pushing/pulling, kneeling.
  
• Ability to stand for long periods.
  

Attire:

• Wear clothes easy to move in
• Wear close-toed shoes
• Bring layers - some roles involve outdoor work (parking, trash) though majority are indoors.
  

Location: Warehouse at 104 East Side Dr, Unit 308, Black Mountain, NC.
