Literacy Together (formerly The Literacy Council of Buncombe County) Volunteer Tutors provide free, customized, one-on-one tutoring for adults with very basic literacy skills or those seeking to get a GED (high school) degree in Buncombe County. Adult literacy students often have learning disabilities or differences such as dyslexia. Tutors are trained to help students navigate these learning challenges and all materials are provided. The program director works to connect students and tutors to the resources they need.

- Prepare a weekly lesson plan based on provided curriculum
- Tutor for 2 hours weekly with one student
- Report your volunteer hours and student progress once a month

- Commitment of six months
Skills Required:
- Curiosity and compassion working with an adult who may feel shame or fear about their skill level and also be determined to improve over time

- You do not need to have teaching experience; we’ll train you!
