Remember those “when I grow up, I want to be” moments when you were in school? Maybe a mentor or school counselor helped you to dream big about what you could become in the future. What we know for sure is that the guidance and encouragement of a caring adult are key in this process. Today, we are asking you to become that caring adult. We need your firsthand experience to help Erwin Middle School students understand their options when it comes to careers.
Erwin Middle School’s Career Day takes place on Friday, April 3rd from 7:30am - 12:30pm. We are looking for folks from diverse careers and backgrounds to interact with 7th and 8th grade students. We’d love a variety of careers represented, not just opportunities that require a 4+ year degree.
What should I be prepared to talk about?
Students should understand that the knowledge, skills and work habits that they are practicing right now can open doors to great professions, like yours, in the future.
Here are some questions to think about as you prepare:
-
How are subjects studied in school (reading, writing, math, science, social studies, art, music, etc.) used in your profession?
-
What kind of education and training after high school may be needed for this job?
-
How is cooperation with others required on this job?
-
How is technology used in your job?
-
How do you see this profession changing in the next 10 years?
-
What advice would you give to a middle school student interested in this career?
This opportunity is a Career Fair style set up. Tables and chairs will be provided to you. You just bring yourself and any documents, advertisements related to your career and profession you would like to share. Interactive tables are encouraged as that will get more students to participate.
