The Black Mountain Center for the Arts is a nonprofit community arts hub offering dance, music, theatre, visual arts, exhibitions, performances, workshops, and events to bring creativity to all in the Swannanoa Valley
Volunteer Role Overview
As a Dance Open House Support volunteer, you’ll help create a welcoming environment by setting up activity stations, maintaining studio cleanliness, greeting visitors, and assisting with refreshments and prize distribution.
Volunteer Responsibilities:

Set up mats, chairs, signage, and demo areas before the event

Keep studio floors, lobby, and waiting areas tidy during the Open House
-
Greet guests, explain event flow, and orient them to studio spaces
-
Hand out refreshments and prizes during activities
-
Restock activity materials and refreshments as needed
-
Assist with teardown and clean‑up after the event
Requirements:

Complete the volunteer interest form or application
-
Attend brief orientation and on‑site training before first shift
Provide personal transportation to BMCA location
-
(Optional) Background check if working with children or refreshments
Skills Required:
-
Friendly customer service and clear communication
-
Ability to multitask across greeting, setup, and distribution
-
Comfortable standing, walking, bending, and light lifting
-
Observant and proactive in maintaining activity areas
Attire:
-
Neat, Casual clothes that you are comfortable moving in
Comfortable, closed‑toe shoes
Volunteer T‑shirt provided (optional if available)
