Love art? Love people? This is the role for you. As a Gallery Docent for Art in Bloom 2026, you'll be the warm, knowledgeable face that greets visitors and helps them connect with an extraordinary exhibit pairing original artwork with stunning floral interpretations.
The Black Mountain Center for the Arts has been bringing people and the arts together since 2000 — and volunteers like you make that possible.
What You'll Do:
Welcome visitors and orient them to the gallery
Verify tickets and introduce the "pay what you can" model to walk-ins
Answer questions about the exhibit and BMCA
Track visitor counts using a provided clicker
Requirements:
Volunteer waiver and emergency contact form (completed before your first shift)
Arrive 15 minutes early for check-in
Attendance at the June 15 Volunteer Gathering is encouraged
You're a Great Fit If You:
Enjoy friendly conversation with people of all backgrounds
Can stand comfortably for several hours
Are able to navigate three flights of stairs — our elevator was damaged in Hurricane Helene and is awaiting replacement funding from the Town of Black Mountain
Attire: Smart casual — spring colors and florals encouraged. Comfortable shoes and a pin-back name badge required.
