Spend a gorgeous June weekend outdoors surrounded by beautiful gardens, live art, and a community that celebrates creativity! As a Garden Guide for Art in Bloom 2026, you'll welcome visitors to one of our featured private gardens and help make their experience memorable.
The Black Mountain Center for the Arts has been a gathering place for arts and community since 2000 — and our beloved garden tour is one of the highlights of the year.
What You'll Do:
Welcome visitors and check tickets at your assigned garden
Share information about Art in Bloom and BMCA
Answer questions and help guests feel at home
Assist with light data collection and event photos
Requirements:
Volunteer waiver and emergency contact form (completed before your shift)
Attendance at the June 15 Volunteer Gathering is required for Garden Guides
Personal transportation to your assigned garden location
Arrive 15 minutes early for check-in with your Garden Owner
You're a Great Fit If You:
Are friendly, outgoing, and love connecting with people
Are comfortable spending several hours outdoors in summer weather
Can navigate uneven outdoor terrain
Attire: Comfortable and weather-appropriate — closed-toed shoes are a must. Spring colors and florals encouraged. Sunscreen and a hat are highly recommended. Pin-back name badge required.
Location: Garden locations provided to confirmed volunteers. Personal transportation required.
Health & Safety: Shifts are fully outdoors — bring water, sunscreen, and sunglasses. Stay home if you're feeling unwell. In an emergency, contact your Garden Owner or John Hall directly.
