Want to help inspire and prepare girls in 3rd - 8th grade for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy choices? Become a Girls on the Run coach (mentor)!! Head Coaches must be female and 21+ years of age. Men can serve as Assistant Coaches, and girls 16 - 21 years may serve as Junior Coaches. No running experience necessary.
Coach requirements:
- Willingness to serve as a role model for young girls
- Understand and believe in the mission and values of Girls on the Run
- Commit to attending at least one lesson per week for the 10-week program season (Mid-September through early December)
- Attend full day Coaches' Training, as well as Mid-Session Coach meeting
- Obtain current CPR/FA certification (provided for free at coach training)
- Complete background check every 24 months.
Coaches are placed with a coach team (one Head Coach who delivers the curriculum and one or more Assistant Coach who helps with team management and encouragement). Coaches select and/or are assigned to a team of 8-20 girls and meet with them after school one or two days a week for 1.5 hours. At the end of each 10-week season, coaches and girls from across WNC join together for the Girls on the Run 5k, a non-competitive, celebratory event that provides girls with a tangible understanding of confidence through accomplishment.
