Our mission is to help Buncombe County residents to improve their living situation by helping them to make their homes more energy-efficient. We serve a vulnerable population that lives on a limited fixed income and unable to pay for those services themselves. The measures we install are simple yet they do help to improve energy efficiency.
Everyone is welcome, all volunteers get an orientation at the worksite. The majority of measures are easy to perform, the hardest ones like weatherstripping a door are usually performed by more skilled volunteers or the project leaders.
We have weekly opportunities all over Buncombe County. Regular days: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday (occasionally) mornings or afternoons. After everyone signed up, the project leader follows up with the details. We meet up at Green Built Alliance office building in West Asheville (378 Haywood Street) to go over orientation, load the supplies and carpool. CARPOOLING is ENCOURAGED!
Do not worry if you think you do not have any experience. At Energy Savers Network we welcome all skill levels, as long as you have the desire and ambition to make a positive difference in people's lives. Also, being physically capable is necessary. You won't be picking up any heavy stuff, but you will have to be able to bend, get on your knees, climb on a ladder or a step stool, etc.
Reach out directly to the Operations Coordinator, Yulia Shaffer if you'd like to get on our volunteer list.
