Help make the Mediation Center's Family Visitation area more inviting and germ-free for families!
We would like to have several projects going on simultaneously in order to get everything done before the MLK March. Two people to work on toy cleaning. Five people to decorate five cardboard boxes which will hold craft kits. In addition, we can welcome up to 6 more people to clean - wipe down surfaces, vacuum upholstered furniture, clean interior windows, etc.
The mission of The Mediation Center is to create opportunity from conflict. The Family Visitation Program provides an opportunity for children to visit with parents in a safe environment when the children might not otherwise have an opportunity to have a relationship with their parents, because of safety concerns. Dr King said, “the ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy”. By supporting the work of the Family Visitation Program, you are helping to provide a safe space for children and domestic violence victims in the midst of family conflict.
The Family Visitation Program will provide donuts and coffee. We will have craft materials on hand for decorating boxes. However, volunteers are welcome to bring their own materials, if the prefer to use specific materials. We welcome the opportunity to participate in this MLK Day of Service!
Thank you for your help!
NOTE: All volunteers for this project are invited and encouraged to attend the MLK Partnership for Change Kickoff event the morning of the 21st in Alumni Hall at UNC Asheville and pick up your t-shirt. Light breakfast will begin at 7:15am, followed by the kickoff and the program will conclude at 8:05am in time for you to get to your project sites.
