You are in for one exciting day when you sign-up to volunteer at Drums & Dragons, Asheville's Premiere Dragon Boat Race Festival and Fundraiser happening at Lake Julian Park in Arden on Saturday, June 22, 2019! Dragon boat racing involves a boat of 20 paddlers, a drummer and a steerer paddling to cross the finish line faster than their competition. It's a team sport that encompasses the elements of power, speed, synchronization, and endurance. People who never thought of themselves as athletes can thrive in a dragon boat and people who are athletes discover a challenging alternative to general sports.
We have a variety of positions available on race day including: volunteer registration, hospitality tent, VIP area, recycling crew, t-shirt sales, informational booth, team marshaling, boat loader/unloader, scoring runner, parking assistance, mobile app updating for race, set up and clean up before and after race, children's area, off-water entertainment and much more.
You will have a chance to sign up for volunteer opportunities when you sign up!
Shifts are typically in 3-hour increments on race day, the first shifts starting at 7:30 am and last shifts ending at 4:30 pm. Some helpful skills: cash register experience, carpentry, good with the public, are able to walk, run, lift, stoop, and stand for periods of time, good with children, etc.
Volunteers should wear comfortable shoes, a hat/sunscreen, and bring a water bottle for refilling at our hydration station. There will be food trucks on site for breakfast and lunch so be sure to bring cash. We will provide water and snacks during your shift.
100% of proceeds from this year's fundraiser will help to assist in meeting the health challenges of persons in the communities of Western North Carolina and to empower non-profits to impact individual and community wellness in those communities.
