Before you even begin thinking about volunteering, ask yourself – Am I well enough to volunteer?

Your safety and limiting the spread of COVID-19 is everyone’s main priority. We encourage you to review and adhere to the recommendations on the Buncombe County readiness site on how best to avoid COVID-19 and what to do if you think you might have it.


Buncombe County Government provides a variety of services to residents around the areas of general government, human services, culture and recreation, environment, education, economic and physical development. As a response to community needs during COVID-19 response, we are asking volunteers to support COVID-19 vaccine distribution efforts.

As part of COVID-19 response efforts, Buncombe County is recruiting and managing medical volunteers to assist with COVID-19 vaccine distribution at multiple locations. 

Volunteer Roles for Medical Volunteers Include:

  • Preparing shots to be administered
  • Administering vaccines to patients
  • MD's available for patient questions
  • MD's available for supervision
  • Monitoring patients who have been given vaccines

Requirements for ALL Volunteers:

  • Respond to the volunteer opportunity above (if you do not have a profile, you will be asked to complete a profile before you can respond)
  • Email address to receive next step information 
  • Completion of application and forms provided by Buncombe County Government
  • Background check or current medical license
  • Personal transportation to sites

Skills Required: 

  • Understanding of and compliance with HIPPA laws and regulations
  • Positive and compassionate customer service skills
  • Excellent written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills
  • Ability to remain calm during times of crisis
  • Remain flexible and adapt easily to different situations 
  • Ability to remain standing for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift up to 10 lbs.

Attire:

  • Business casual or medical scrubs (preferred if available)
  • Comfortable, close toed shoes

  • AB Tech (16 Fernihurst Dr.)
  • AC Reynolds High School (1 Rocket Dr.)

Health and Safety:

  • Masks, gloves and face shield provided
  • Hand sanitizer/gel is available on site
  • Asking volunteers to maintain physical distance of 6 feet or more when possible
    • Note: there are times when the volunteer task requires volunteers to engage closer than 6 feet. Please do not sign up if you feel uncomfortable.

Why does this matter? We have to limit the number of people attending each project. This helps everyone stay safe by following COVID-19 specific safety measures.
