Read To Succeed Asheville/Buncombe is an Asheville-based nonprofit on a mission to inspire and teach kids to read.
We are seeking volunteers to help us with Summer Reading Carnivals at four locations! Volunteers will assist with staffing the booths and games. In addition to book-themed carnival games and prizes, we will have a photo booth, temporary tattoos, snacks/drinks, and a bounce house at each location. All children will leave with a Family Literacy Kit as well with representative and diverse books, info from Buncombe County Libraries, and a reading game.
Locations:
- Arthur R. Edington Center - July 23 (11am-2pm) *Setup at 10a
- Woodridge Apartments - July 24 (10am-1pm) *Setup at 9a
- Hillcrest Apartments - July 27 (3pm-6pm) *Setup at 2p
- Deaverview Apartments - July 28 (10am-1pm) *Setup at 9a
Volunteer Responsibilities:
- Assist with setting up and taking down (beginning at 9am or 2pm depending on location)
- Staff carnival games, temporary tattoo, and photo booths to direct children how to play and hand out prizes
- Staff food/water stations to hand out snacks and drinks
- Staff Welcome Tent to hand out tickets and treat bags
- Staff Family Literacy Booth to hand out kits and books
Requirements:
- Must be able to transport yourself to each location
- A handful of hours of standing, bending (chairs provided as needed)
- Light to moderate lifting
Health and Safety:
- Bring sun protection and water (hat, sunscreen, etc.)
- Bring mask (only for indoor use as needed - carnivals are planned for outside)
- Hand sanitizer and water provided
