Description

 Before you begin thinking about volunteering, ask yourself – Am I well enough to volunteer?

Your safety and limiting the spread of COVID-19 is everyone’s main priority. We encourage you to review and adhere to the recommendations on the Buncombe County readiness site on how best to avoid COVID-19 and what to do if you think you might have it.

Winter break is rapidly approaching for our community schools, and along with it comes the chance to give back to the educators, administration, and who staff who work tirelessly everyday to educate our children! Currently, UWABC is seeking individuals, teams, and corporate partners to support the staff across each of the community schools in Asheville and Buncombe County by putting together School Staff Appreciation Packages that include a homemade baked good and a thank you card.

Volunteers will be responsible for making bundles of a simple baked good and a set of handmade thank you cards based on a predetermined template. Each bundle will consist of 25 handmade cards and 50 individual servings of baked goods (i.e. cookies, cupcakes, slices of cake); volunteers can sign up for multiple bundles if they wish. After completing their baked goods and thank you cards, volunteers will drop them off at the UWABC office on December 13th & 14th between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Baked good recipes and thank you card templates, along with additional instructions, will be shared with volunteers after responding to the opportunity.

I'm interested. How do I participate?

  • Respond to this opportunity as an individual or as a team.
  • After you respond, a UWABC staff will reach out to share the suggested recipes and card template.
  • Determine the number of bundles of baked goods and thank you cards you would like to make and inform the UWABC staff. We are asking each volunteer to make at least one bundle containing 25 cards and 50 baked good items.
  • Delivery location: UWABC Offices at 50 S French Broad Ave, Asheville, NC 28801
  • Delivery dates and time: December 13th and 14th from 9 AM- 4 PM

Health and Safety:

  • This is a remote opportunity and larger groups are responsible for the health and safety of their team members' participation.
  • Any time groups are together, UWABC encourages volunteers to follow CDC guidelines of:
    • Practicing social distancing of 6 feet apart;
    • Practicing hand hygiene often and wearing gloves when appropriate;
    • Wearing a mask when baking and if participating with other volunteers.
  • We ask volunteers to wear masks when delivering items to United Way.
