Every year millions of dollars in tax rebates for working-class families are left on the table because families don’t file their taxes. Tax breaks, like the earned income tax credit and childcare tax credit, are available to many working-class families and can result in thousands of dollars of refunds, if they file their taxes. To assist his constituents in District 116, NC House Representative Caleb Rudow is partnering with Pisgah Legal Services, OnTrack WNC, and AARP Mountain Region to do outreach for these tax breaks and help people file their taxes with federally certified VITA and Tax-Aide tax services.
Volunteer Responsibilities:
- Canvass with NC Representative Caleb Rudlow & the Team at Pisgah Legal Services, AARP, and OnTrack WNC to talk to constituents of District 116 about these tax services and how they can file to get their maximum refund.
- Volunteers will be given training on these benefits, canvassing, and fliers to pass out. Support staff from Pisgah Legal Services and OnTrack WNC will be on hand as well to answer questions and to sign people up for VITA tax preparation and Tax-Aide.
- Volunteers will meet for training at On Track Financial's headquarters (50 S French Broad Ave Suite 227) and then will be given neighborhoods to canvass and talk to people about tax benefits and prep services.
Requirements:
- A positive attitude and willingness to knock on doors to reach potential beneficiaries of tax services
- Ability to walk or ride around assigned neighborhoods for the afternoon once training is complete
Attire:
- Casual, comfortable clothing
- Comfortable shows for walking
