Come Cook for the Children!

Join the Equal Plates Project's Southside Kitchen to help prepare nutritious, scratch-made meals for school children in our community!

Equal Plates Project is a local non-profit connecting small WNC Farms, Asheville chefs and our greater community to strengthen our local food systems and to share delicious, scratch-made meals with local schools and those facing complex barriers to food access.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

• chop fresh vegetables and fruit
• assemble meals and portion into meal trays
• package individual servings of fresh fruits and vegetables
• related kitchen tasks as needed
• have fun with the awesome and talented Southside kitchen team!

Requirements:

• Orientation - to be completed before you begin your first shift
• Signed liability waiver - can be completed on site before your first shift

Skills Required: 

• Ability to stand for long periods.  We have chairs for breaks, but most of the work requires standing.
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn new things 

Attire:

• Non-slip, closed-toed shoes
• Something to pull your hair back (hair tie, bandana, hat) - the kitchen will have hair nets

Location:

• 133 Livingston Street - The kitchen is located on the back side of the Edington Center.  Turn onto Gaston Street and park near the Community Garden.  Enter the kitchen through the double doors closest to Gaston Street.
