As a community school supported by United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County, Enka Intermediate School partners with community organizations to provide students and families with resources, opportunities, and support for success. Community schools create strong ties among families, students, schools, and the community while serving as academic and social centers to support innovative learning.
Enka Intermediate School is looking for speakers to present at Career Day on April 1, 2025 from 8:15 a.m. - 12:10 p.m. We are looking for representatives from various fields, such as the military, veterinarians or vet technicians, mechanics, among other interesting professions.
Volunteer Responsibilities: Arrive by 8:00 a.m. to ensure sufficient set up time for presentations. Lead four interactive activities or demonstrations related to profession for 45 minutes each. Provide insights in your field, such as roles, education, skills, challenges, and opportunities within your profession. If possible, provide resources, materials, or hands out for students to take home. Requirements: Respond to the posting by clicking the blue RESPOND button above. Read the follow-up email sent by UWABC community coordinator at Enka Intermediate. Sign waiver onsite before the event begins. Skills Required: Must be able to work with children. Excellent written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills. Ability to facilitate demonstrations or activities that are both engaging and informative for children who are in 5th and 6th grade. Comfortable standing for long periods. Attire: Wear comfortable clothes that are appropriate for a school setting and suitable for standing or demonstrating activities.
