Homeward Bound is a non profit organization dedicated to the mission of ending homelessness in Buncombe County. At our AHope Day Center, people experiencing homelessness can access services such as meals, mail service, access to lockers for their belongings, showers, areas for rest, and case management focused on finding housing.
The AHope kitchen volunteer helps to provide meals and coffee to clients during operating hours and helps staff to clean and organize the kitchen. Shifts are available Monday through Friday from 8am to 2pm, with shorter shift options available.
Volunteer Responsibilities:
Make and serve coffee to clients
Put out food donations and replenish as needed
Tidy the food counter and do dishes throughout service
Clean and organize kitchen after service

Reliable transportation
Skills Required:
Positive and compassionate customer service skills
Comfortability working with individuals in crisis
Comfortability working with individuals with criminal backgrounds
Ability to remain standing for long periods
Ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
Attire:
List what is or isn’t allowed to be worn while someone is volunteering, or give suggestions of what to wear so they will be comfortable
No specific attire required
Attire should be comfortable, including comfortable shoes
Attire with offensive language or images will not be allowed on site

Parking is across the street in the Firestone Parking lot. Volunteers are provided with a parking pass at onboarding.
Health and Safety:
Masks are optional, must bring your own if you need one
Example: Hand sanitizer/gel is available on site as well as hand soap and sinks
No one under 18 years of age is allowed on site

Volunteering can not begin prior to a passed background check and onboarding. The Assistant Director of Homeless Services will communicate with you when you are cleared to begin.
