The mission of Irene's Elves is to provide a new outfit, coat and toys for each child at the Irene Wortham Early Learning Center for Christmas. The Early Learning Center provides high quality education and care for over 100 children, both with and without disabilities. 90% of these children come from households that are at or below poverty level. We are looking to the community to help give these children the holiday they deserve. Elves may help by adopting a specific child and fulfilling their wish list, hosting a toy or coat drive, or donating money to help us purchase toys for special needs children. Call or email by Dec. 1 if you would like to adopt a child. Fulfilling a whole list usually runs in the $50-$100 range. Otherwise, individual and group donations may be dropped off at the Irene Wortham Center, 916 West Chapel Road, Asheville, NC 28803, or at M&D Tire at 300 Edbar Street (off Sweeten Creek Road). Used clothing is acceptable, as Hour Glass Cleaners has donated free dry cleaning. Gifts are due by Dec. 9, so that we have time to wrap them and get them to the North Pole for Santa to deliver. Companies- this is a great way to promote volunteerism around the holidays and to make an impact in the life of a child in need!
