Description

Are you looking for an excuse to knit or crochet for a good cause? Help make baby and adult hats to support at-risk newborns and homeless adults.

Completed baby hats and other knitted items will be given to new mothers in celebration of their completion of WNCCHS's Centering Pregnancy program for prenatal care. These new moms meet together, learn care skills, participate in facilitated discussion, and develope a support network with other members. Centering Pregnancy is a model of prenatal care that includes a traditional health checkup with additional time and attention in a group setting. Women meet with their provider and other women who are due near the same time for 10 sessions during their pregnancies. Centering Pregnancy is a way to share learning and experiences with other pregnant women and to be involved in your own care.

Adult hats, scarves and slippers will be distributed by Meals on Wheels to homebound seniors, as well as Homeward Bound of Asheville to be distributed to men and women served at the A HOPE Day Center. Your handmade knitwear will keep our neighbors warm during our long winters. Volunteers with basic skills in knitting or crocheting are welcome. Please bring your own needles or crochet hooks and a pattern.

  • Youth volunteers age 12+ are able to attend with an adult volunteer. All youth ages 17 and under are required to bring a youth waiver to this project.
