Reading is more fun when you have a buddy! Assist the teachers at the Irene Wortham Early Learning Center by coming in and reading with a kiddo. Irene Wortham Center is a nonprofit near Biltmore Village with a mission to help disadvantaged individuals live more independent, happy, healthy, and FULL lives. Our Early Learning Center has individualized educational and behavioral programs for children 6 weeks to five years old with intellectual developmental delays. The majority of the children also come from challenging socioeconomic situations and are part of a state voucher program. Typically developing children are in class with children who have developmental delays because we know the importance and positive impact on development this integration brings to everyone.
Our teachers work extremely hard along with the assistance of Foster Grandparents who come to us through Land of Sky. We strive to keep a strong teacher to student ratio in an effort to provide the necessary individualized attention to each child. Your help as a reading buddy would go a long way! This volunteer opportunity is available all-year round Monday through Friday, 9am-12 and 3-6pm.
