Food Connection eases hunger, reduces waste and supports our local food industry by redistributing surplus prepared food and purchasing meals from chefs to serve our neighbors in need.
We are seeking volunteers to be a part of our team to help make sure food does not go wasted. Volunteers will pack up individual meals from rescued food. If you have experience using a spoon or spatula then you can be a part of our team!
Volunteer Responsibilities:
- Transfer food from kitchen pans to individual meal portion containers
- Hand out meals to community members who come to the Mobile Meals Truck
Shifts will take place every Wednesday from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM and Friday from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM in Asheville. The Thursday shift is from 12:00-2:00. The time commitment ranges from 1.5 to 2 hours. Each shift requires at least two volunteers.

Volunteer Requirements:
- Respond to secure your volunteer slot
- Ability to stand for up to 3 hours at a time
- Must be 18 to volunteer or volunteer with a parent/guardian
- Must wear closed-toed shoes and long pants
- Must wear a hat or hairnet
- Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty or bring an apron
- No dangling earrings or other jewelry
Health and Safety:
- Hand washing sinks available
- We no longer require masks but you may mask if you wish.
- Note: there are many times when the volunteer task may require a volunteer to engage closer than 6 feet. Please do not sign up if you feel uncomfortable.
